Her Excellency Monica Chakwera is a Chartered Accountant and esteemed member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). With over four decades of experience, culminating in her retirement in 2017, Her Excellency has lent her skills and leadership to organizations such as the British Council, International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Plan International, the Irish Embassy, and the renowned accounting firm, Deloitte.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Her Excellency Monica Chakwera is a dedicated advocate for social welfare. As the First Lady of Malawi, she continues to leverage her wealth of experience and influence to champion initiatives that positively impact the lives of the Malawian people.

In 2014, Madame Chakwera founded the Shaping Our Future Foundation, a testament to her commitment to the development of the village girl—an initiative close to her heart. Inspired by her own humble roots and upbringing, this cause embodies her passion for uplifting and empowering young minds in rural communities.
