About AFLPM

African First Ladies Peace Mission, established to promote peace and harmony in Africa, came into being in 1995 after the Beijing Conference on women in Beijing, China. The initiative was taken by the First Ladies of Nigeria, Gambia, Benin, Uganda, Lesotho and Burundi to undertake a mission of peace to the rest of Africa. Following series of activities at regional levels, the Formal Declaration of the African First Ladies Peace Mission was made in Harare, Zimbabwe during the OAU Summit in 1996. This initiative led to the establishment of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM) by the then Nigerian First Lady, Mrs. Maryam Sani Abacha.

To support the efforts of African Leaders and the African Union, in ensuring a peaceful, secure and prosperous Africa by 2063.

Mission

To help mobilize national, regional and continental stakeholders towards anchoring a culture of peace and humanitarian solidarity.

Objective

To address the peace situation on the continent with regard to the role of women, mobilize resources to help reduce violent conflict & its effects in Africa.

The President

Her Excellency Mrs. Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow is the First Lady of the Republic of The Gambia and the current President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM-MIPREDA). She is dedicated to combating poverty and providing assistance through health care initiatives for women and children in The Gambia through her NGO the Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow Foundation (FaBB)
Her Excellency Mrs. Bah-Barrow’s professional journey cuts across sales and marketing.
Her Excellency Mrs. Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow continues to be an inspiring figure, fostering positive change and making meaningful contributions to the well-being of her fellow citizens. She was honoured with the Vigor Unsung Heroes Award International Humanitarian 2023 for her service to Humanity on July 30, 2023 in Canada during the Windsor International Diaspora African Festival.
